Slow down, explore, and create something beautiful from nature’s treasures.

In this calming Art in Nature session, children will collect leaves, petals, feathers, sticks, seeds, shells and other natural materials before arranging them into their own unique nature mandala. Inspired by patterns found in the natural world, children will discover how simple objects can be transformed into stunning works of art.

As they create, we’ll encourage mindfulness, observation, creativity and a sense of wonder, helping children connect with nature while expressing themselves through art.

Party In The Barn

Get ready for Party in the Barn, a fun-filled summer celebration for all the family, taking place on Saturday 4th July from 11am–5pm. With a jam-packed schedule featuring live music, family entertainment, dancing, delicious food, games and creative activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Our headline act, BLEEKER, takes to the stage from 3pm–4.30pm, alongside DJ host Mark Martin, who will be playing family favourites and popular Dancing Through the Decades sets throughout the day.

Van Dough Bros and Edinburgh street food favourite Freds Backyard BBQ will be dishing up incredible food, while The Barn Bar will be serving a range of alcoholic, non-alcoholic and soft drinks - all to be enjoyed al fresco in our beautiful courtyard.

Also joining us will be Face Painting by Laura, and a bouncy castle for jumping, laughter and play throughout the day.

Little ones can also get creative at our crafting station, transforming recycled materials into their own works of art.

With family games, creative activities and plenty of space to explore, relax and make memories together, Party in the Barn is the perfect family day out this summer.

Legend says that every tree has a guardian spirit watching over it. Help reveal the guardian hidden within the bark and leaves, giving it a face, a name and a story of its own.

Step into the magic of the woodland and create your very own Tree Guardian.

Using natural treasures gathered from nature such as leaves, twigs, bark, feathers, seeds and flowers, children will design a friendly face on a tree, bringing it to life with imagination and creativity.

As they create, we’ll explore the importance of trees, woodland habitats and caring for the natural world around us. Children will be encouraged to look closely at nature’s patterns, textures and colours while developing their artistic skills and confidence.

This calm, creative activity encourages mindfulness, observation, storytelling and a deeper connection with nature. Every Tree Guardian is unique, reflecting the imagination of the child who creates it.

Scotland’s Garden Scheme Open Day

Join us on Saturday 15th August as we showcase our beautiful Gardens and raise money for local mental health charity Stepping Out. This is our 4th year taking part in this established event series and we look forward to welcoming you for a fun-filled celebration of our Gardens, and all that we grow in them.

Enjoy homemade bakes on the lawn, buy freshly cut flowers, take-away cakes, produce and preserves created using produce from our Gardens.

There will be garden tours at 12pm and 3pm, a botanical casting exhibition and free minibeast trail for children.

The Gardens

Our gardens comprise a series of themed spaces designed for year-round interest. We adopt sustainable practices including a ‘no dig’ approach. Explore our perennial meadow with swaying grasses and fruit trees. See incredible edibles in the potager and polytunnel complete with grapevine, colourful cutting gardens, a wildlife area with willow tunnels, stumpery and pond. Our ornamental borders brim with monochrome and textural plants and our water-saving garden features drought tolerant species in shades of blue, rust and orange. Visit our artist-in-residence in the potting shed and take wee ones on a minibeast hunt. Come wander, sit and enjoy. There is so much to see!

Gardeners’ Question Time

Gardeners' Question Time

Whether you're an avid gardener or just getting started, this event is a great way to seek expert advice on gardening, growing and landscaping in a sociable and informal way. Ask those niggling questions and have them answered by our panel whose collective expertise spans general gardening, garden design, veg growing, sustainability, bulb & cut flower growing, wildlife habitats, soil health and so much more!

The evening will begin with a welcome drink in the Garden Café and a short presentation by The Lady Gardener, Susie Coupar at 6.30pm. Susie will talk about the show garden she has designed for Scone Palace Garden Festival, inspired by neurodivergent minds and biodiversity.

After the presentation finishes, Question Time will begin. With Susie as our host, our expert panel will introduce themselves and then answer your pre-submitted questions. There will also be time for some impromptu questions from the floor. At the end of the night, the Garden Shop will be open for those wishing to shop with 10% off all products* exclusively for Gardeners’ Question Time attendees.

With over 40 years’ experience as a professional horticulturist; Neil is a fount of gardening knowledge. He is president of the East Linton Flower Show and has judged many a local floral competition.

Nick Starnes (MSGLD), Principal Designer and Director, Stephen Ogilvie Ltd.

With 25 years’ experience, he leads a multidisciplinary team delivering landscape design, build and horticulture across Scotland, focused on place-led gardens shaped by planting and careful construction.

Fiona Playfair, Garden Solutions, Redhouse & Ballencrieff Farm

With a background in potato pathology and agricultural contracting, Fiona took over Garden Solutions in 2008 allowing her to return to her first loves of growing plants and testing compost mixtures.

Archerfield 10k

Archerfield 10k, Saturday 9th May

Whether you're training for a marathon, attempting a PB or are simply looking to up your fitness, this is the event for you.

Run, walk, or jog this scenic mixed-terrain route which takes in the Archerfield Estate and surrounding beauty spots. Enjoy a speedy start with the first few k's mostly on tarmac, before striding out onto the sands of Yellowcraig beach to see the majestic Fidra Island in front of you. Once your sandy steps are complete, you'll travel back towards the finish along a series of tree-lined trails, crossing the finish line close to our beautiful beech walk.

Early Registration

Those that live locally and would like to register ahead of the event can do so on Friday 8th May, from 4pm - 6pm in the Garden Cafe.

Results

This is a chip timed event. Your finish time will be sent to your mobile number after you’ve crossed the finish line. If you would like a print out, you can visit the chip timing van on site. The full results will be posted online at perfecttimingscotland.co.uk/results/ after the race.

Bringing friends or family?

There’s lots for your cheering squad to get on with while they wait for your return. The Garden Café serves a range of breakfast and brunch options, while the Shop is full of gifts, homeware, womenswear and more. There's plenty to explore outdoors too with acres of Grounds including a Fairy Trail, Pond, Willow Walk and beautiful Gardens.

Minimum Age

Entrants must be aged 16 and over.

Suitability

All levels, goals & abilities.

Bag Drop

We will not have a secure bag drop and won't accept responsibility for loss or damage to posessions left unattended while you run. We recommend you leave items of value in your car or with a friend / family member.

Parking

We have two car parks here and also two overflow car parks, all of which are free of charge.

Dogs

Due to the number of runners, dogs are not permitted to run with you at this event. However, they are welcome at Archerfield Walled Garden, so if you have a friend or family member to leave them with while you run, they can enjoy all areas as long as they are kept on a lead (excluding the outdoor section of the Garden Café where there is a children's play area).

Medical Assistance

The Scottish Ambulance Service will be on site should you have any medical concerns and our staff and marshals around the course will be able to help you if you need support.

Water Station

There is one water station on the route which is situated approximately at the 4/7k point, offering two opportunities to rehydrate. This will be located close to the car park at Yellowcraig.

Toilets

There are public toilet facilities located on the route at Yellowcraig car park.

Safety notice

You will be running on some uneven surfaces for example on the tracks through the woods. Runners should come adequately prepared for uneven, gravel or mud surfaces. The route will be well sign posted, with marshals sited at various intervals. Safety is paramount and we expect runners to always follow the advice of marshals especially at points where runners are on public roads. To ensure runner safety, the wearing of earphones is not recommended. As Yellowcraig beach is a public beach there will be other non runners present and some may have off the lead dogs - please be vigilant.

Cancellation Policy

This event is strictly non-refundable. In the eventuality of Archerfield Walled Garden cancelling the event due to adverse weather or other unforeseen circumstances, we will offer you a full refund of your registration fee minus any booking fees paid.

Designed for pre-school children, these fun, hands-on sessions introduce simple art and nature activities, helping children explore, learn, and make something special to take home.
