The Dirleton Run

The Dirleton Run, consisting of a 10k, 5k and 1k fun run, offers an opportunity to run, jog or walk through the picturesque Archerfield Estate and historic village of Dirleton in the beautiful East Lothian countryside. The run, together with a fabulous family fun day, raises vital funds for Dirleton Playgroup. The Playgroup runs every week through term time and offers children a wonderful, warm and educational environment to play, learn and grow. To find out more click here.

The Route:

The 10k route takes you from our main entrance towards Gullane and then through the woods back towards Dirleton. In Dirleton you will run through the village and take a left down Ware Road towards Yellowcraig beach. At the entry to Yellowcraig you will turn left to run through the woods, exiting in to Archerfield Estate. You will then run back towards the start line. 

The 5k route takes you from our main entrance towards Gullane and through the woods back to Dirleton. Leaving the John Muir Way you take an immediate left towards Dirleton Kirk Hall, where you will then turn left into the woods, exit in to Archerfield Estate and run back to the start line.
The 1k Fun Run will be held on the Beech Walk .

  • 8.30am - Registration opens
  • 9.10 - Warm up
  • 9.30 - 10k sets off
  • 9.30 - Family fun day opens
  • 9.45 - 5k sets off
  • 11.00 - 1k sets off
  • 11.30 - Winners announced
  • 12.00pm - Event closes

All races start and finish just outside our main gates.

Timing devices, supplied by Racetimers UK, are issued for this event. Runners are welcome to bring their own timing devices.

Please note prize-giving will take place as the winners are announced at 11.30am.  

Family Fun Day

The family fun day will open at 9.30am. There will be lots of activities and fun for children - including bouncy castles, face painting, glitter tattoos, our famous ice cream bike and other games too - as well as a few things for the grown up spectators too. Make sure the kids have their pocket money with them!

In addition to the family fun day, the Garden Cafe, deli and shop will all be open for refreshments, and the children's outdoor play area will also be open and available for use by all spectators.

There are no shower facilities on site. Please arrive ready to run (or walk/jog). 

Please note there is no secure storage on site for valuables or kit. The organisers and Archerfield Walled Garden cannot accept responsibility for loss of or damage to any personal items. Please ensure that your possessions are safely and securely stowed in your vehicle (or better yet, at home!). 

Health & Safety

Please note that all participants take part at their own risk. If you have any health concerns or medical conditions please seek advice from a doctor before signing up to take part. 

Whilst running please ensure you take adequate liquids on board, particularly in the event of warm temperatures. Water will be available throughout the course. 

Clear route maps will be posted at the registration desks for all routes. Maps will be available here and also on request from You will be running on some uneven surfaces. Runners should come adequately prepared for uneven, gravel or mud surfaces. 

All routes are extensively sign posted and well marshalled. Safety is paramount and we expect runners to follow the advice of marshals at all times especially at points where runners are on public roads.

To ensure runner safety the wearing of earphones is strictly prohibited.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.

First aiders will be present on the day. In case of emergency, please dial 999. 


We have plenty of free parking here to accommodate runners and supporters. Please follow signage and instructions of parking co-ordinators.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds are available. Cancellations must be made at least seven days before the event to ensure a full refund. Any cancellations made within seven days of the event will not receive any refund. For the avoidance of doubt, no-shows will not receive any refund. 

If you know you won't be able to attend the race, please cancel your place here on Entry Central. There will be a waiting list and it would be great to give other people a chance to participate. Thank you.
